how i found the perfect coffee table

You may recall that around Christmas I was wishing for a clear coffee table from CB2. My husband felt we could find something a little thicker for the price, so I kept looking. What I found was beautiful, but a lot more expensive — and I had no luck on eBay at all. Fast-forward four months, when I stumbled across MirrorMirror, a blog by fellow Seattleite Paola Thomas. She had just bought a new coffee table, and as it turned out, her old one was exactly what I was looking for — only better! Instead of plastic, it was made of half-inch-thick tempered glass. Feeling a bit forward, I posted a comment asking if she would sell it. She agreed — and not only did we get a great, durable, attractive coffee table for not much more than the CB2 version, we met some lovely new people as well. I think there are two lessons here: 1) Life with the Internet is simply better and 2) Never be afraid to ask! –Mary T.

And it looks MUCH better in your home than it did in mine

Let me reassure those of you out there who don’t stumble into such serendipity that I just got the CB2 table myself (two weeks ago, after wanting it forever), and I was pleasantly surprised by the heft and quality. I’m sure it will show wear much sooner than the glass version would, but there’s nothing out there that comes close for the money. Unless you’re lucky and brave enough to find and contact a stranger who’s getting rid of one

That looks fabulous! What a great find. Love that feeling when you finally find just what you’ve been looking for.

Oh I will be buying the CB2 table in the next few months and I too have been wondering where I could find an alterntive (in my case I was hoping for same heft, but cheaper). I’ve even concidered researching what it would take to bend acrylic yourself. I know…that’s crazy, but sometimes I can be a crazy diyer.

Thanks for the responses — and good to know the CB2 version is nice, too. We don’t have a CB2 store locally or I would have seen it in person.

It’s so funny, chatting with Paola online about TV shows (Top Design, Design Star, even Dirty Sexy Money) is one of the reasons I agree with you about how wonderful the internet is! She is hilarious and one of my favorite online buddies. by the way, your living room is beautiful and perfectly edited.
