retro fireplaces — yes, they still make them

With colder weather coming, do you have a hankering to lounge before your own mod-ski-lodge style fireplace? You can search eBay for vintage fireplaces by PreWay and others. But if you’re not that patient, we just discovered via a past post at Retro Renovation that you can score a brand-new fireplace that only looks vintage. Visit Malm Fireplaces for a variety of modern freestanding fireplaces. They’re not cheap, but with prices in the $1500-2000 range, they’re not ridiculously extravagant, either. Incidentally, Malm builds custom fireplaces as well — they did the fireplace for the iconic Parker Palm Springs resort, top photo above.

Thanks for this post and for mentioning my site. It is indeed AMAZING what a design statement these fireplaces can make - they are so architecturally beautifully — and cozy, to boot! In addition to the ones still made by Malm, there seem to be many other designs hanging out in midcentury basements. Some of them are SO TACKY that they are gorgeous!
