our kitchen bookshelves, staged

Last week we debated the merits of family living in a small space in the city versus a cozy house in a suburb. Admittedly, just the word “suburb” makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up a bit…. until I actually go visit some of these small towns near our big city and my heart melts. Though we’ve made no concrete decisions as to WHERE we should live, we have decided to place our UWS one-bedroom on the market. We’re throwing our fate into the hands of real estate gods, who are a little angry these days. To help appease them, we have removed half of our our belongings (which we don’t even miss) and given the place a good scrub as we got ready for an open house this weekend. The thing that has been the most rewarding is styling our wall of built-in bookshelves. They look soooo much better half empty rather than completely full. Makes ya wonder why don’t live like this all the time. Hmmm. Maybe we should! — Angela M.

Those shelves look fantastic. Good Luck and know that from a Gramercy Park studio to a historic upstate home downtown in my little city was the best decision I would remake any day.

The best our previous house ever looked was when we were about to sell it! We were finally forced to finish the bathroom and paint the bedroom and get rid of the junk we’d accumulated. We should pretend we’re moving!

Shelves look amazing! We’re thinking of the same move, from a city (San Francisco) into a smaller East Bay town. Every time we leave the city, it feels right…getting the space, the pace, the greenery..we just need to bite the bullet!

Our house in the Hudson Valley never looked as good as the month we sold it. The country just wasn’t for me. Now we have the perfect blend of city and suburbs in Seattle. Guess I needed a whole other state!
Good luck! May the real estate gods shine down on you!
