the omnivore's hundred: would you eat it?

Truffles? Blini? Insects? From the ridiculous to the sublime, Very Good Taste wants to know what you would eat. Their meme, The Omnivore’s Hundred (found via Voracious) has gone worldwide in very short time. It’s a list of 100 items that you answer if you’ve eaten, would eat, or would never eat, following some simple rules:

1) Copy this list into your blog or journal, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten.
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating.
4) Optional extra: Post a comment at Very Good Taste linking to your results.

My list is below — we’d love to see yours! –Mary T.

Hmm. I’ve eaten lots of things, it seems. Many of the items on this list were things I’d never heard of. Mainly, I’m squeamish about the idea of eating reptiles or amphibeans. But I suppose if I were starving I wouldn’t be so fussy.

I can only imagine eating roadkill that was entirely fresh, and only if unbelievably hungry.

And although I’ve eaten insects covered in chocolate on a dare, I’d rather not consume any more.

DJ

Heh. “Amphibeans.”

Do you know something about kobe beef that I don’t? It doesn’t seem to match with your other ‘would not eats’.

Maybe I’m thinking of the wrong thing?

Oh, and I thought sea urchin was disgusting too – it tasted like low tide. Maybe we got bad ones?

j

If crocodile tastes anything like alligator – YUM!!!! You definitely should try it if you’re ever in Louisiana.

Mary T

PlantingOaks, my issue is with how the kobe beef cows are immobilized. It’s obvious I’m not a vegetarian but I was for a long time and lately I’ve been trending that way again. Certain practices just seem unnecessarily cruel.

I am impressed you ate larva–that just tops it all.

Mary T

Hey, guys — tell us what on the list you ate! : )

Tiffany S.

Let’s go eat Bagna cauda somewhere!

Kobe beef may be immobilized but they’re also fed beer and massaged daily so sign me up! Plus it’s delicious! But I’ll eat yours!

Hey! Everyone can see mine here:

My score’s actually at a 66 now, having eaten a currywurst the other night!

I did it here – I’m only at 42 but there’s not much I wouldn’t try! I have always been curious about haggis…
