site we’re psyched about: novelaction.com

Not that we want booksellers to suffer any more than predicted this holiday season, but this site, novelaction.com, provides a great way to make sure you always have something new to read. The site is devoted to exchanging used books. Here’s how it works: You go to the site and browse through the pages and pages of available titles. Once you find a few that you want, check the boxes, and then commit to send in that same number of books. After your already-read, no-longer-needed books have been received, the new reads you want will be shipped out to you. It’s almost like a Netflix for used books. All you pay for is shipping — $4.80 for up to 12 books. Click here to see more!

If you read the fine print, annual membership fee is $25. That’s a bummer.

Something very similar and really FREE is Paperbackswap (www.paperbackswap.com). Check it out. I’ve been swapping books through them for a couple of years now and I love it.

I use BookMooch, which is also free (except for shipping when sending books out) and easy to use. http://www.bookmooch.com/

I use both paperbackswap & bookmooch.

There’s a book rental service that is truer to the Netflix model. BookSwim — http://www.bookswim.com — rents out books with no due dates or late fees and free shipping both ways. Novelaction used to have a business model similar to this but changed it up to the “swapping” model you currently see.
