five things we learned last week

1. There’s nothing like a blood red shower curtain to spice up a bathroom. As Berit says of our deliciously creepy find: I totally want it for my all-white bathroom. To replace the vintage sparkly-gold-butterflies shower curtain. Why not go from one extreme to the other?” Click here to see the Psycho curtain!
2. We believe in starting our own Christmas traditions. Like this one from Phillippa about a live tree: “We got one the year that my first son was born – a 1.5 footer. We plan to replant the tree in a different pot each year – until it’s unsupportable on the balcony – and the boys and tree will grow together.” Click here to read more live trees.
3. When we think of traveling, we think of food. As Katya wrote: “I have to have French Onion Soup everywhere I go when I’m in Paris. I’m always there when its a bit chilly, so it is perfect after a day of walking around. Oh and of course fois gras!” What’s your favorite destination food? Tell us here!
4. Mismatched sheets are dreamy. Rebeccajean writes: “Oh my gosh, between my immediate family and my grandparents, we actually had (and possibly still have) SEVERAL of those sheet sets that have been used at scrumdillydilly!” Click here to see them and more on Mary T’s wish list.
5. A pot/steamer combo is a kitchen must have. CityMinx wrote: I have that pasta pot/steamer, but not the All-Clad version. Mine cost about 40 dollars from Linens N Things, and I love it! It works great both as a quick boil and with long simmers. If you don’t get the expensive one for a gift, save some money and go economical – it’s still a great pot.” See the one Angela’s hoping for here.
