closet organizing inspiration

So, Nicole at Making it Lovely just organized her closet, which she insists is no great shakes — just an Ikea system. Still, the results are envy-inducing (and that’s not even including the shoes). It inspired me to do a bit more digging online. Once the frenzy of Christmas is behind me, this is the perfect time of year to get closets organized. And ours are in dire need — we have that classic dilemma of a house built before giant closets were the rage.

We do have a guest room, but it doubles as my office, and the closet in there doubles as a catch-all for our out-of-season clothes. I like Real Simple’s approach to creating some closet space for visitors that won’t require my boots to find a new home.

Apartment Therapy has some great ideas on storage options that fit in the living room. Replacing a door with a curtain can work wonders — I’ve done this before, and it makes access a whole lot easier (half the time I can’t get the closet door closed anyway).

There are no photos — and I like photos — but this is a helpful eZine article anyway on organizing your coat closet. Ours is of course jammed with our coats — no room should anyone come over with an extra!

I guess I know what my New Year’s resolution will be… –Mary T.
