got tips on how to clean a sisal rug?

Almost every day, Isadora gets taken for a long walk in her stroller. She always falls asleep, and sometimes she is still snoozing when we get home, so we’ll gently park her in the bedroom so she can keep on napping. Well, there’s a bit of snow and slush and salt on the ground here, and the other day, the stroller wheels left four nasty stains our sisal rug (which I bought at Pot Barn about ten years ago). Since we’re in constant open house mode these days, I panicked. Our first thoughts — Flip it over! — were quickly thwarted after realizing it had a rubber backing. Luckily, I found these helpful tips over at Good Housekeeping’s website. Though I have no idea what “the manufacturer’s recommended cleaner” may be, we were able to blot out most of the stain with a damp towel and a bit of soap. Please let me know if you have any other tips! — Angela M.

Not a cleaning tip, but a prevention tip: Can you stash two past-their-prime bath towels near the front door when you go for a walk? Then, when you come home, lay one out on the floor, roll the stroller over it until the wheels are clear, then carry the other to the bedroom and lay it on the sisal rug before you park the stroller on top of it. The towels are small enough to stay unnoticed when you are doing the open house thing, and can easily be tossed in the wash. This would be a good idea even after the slush goes away. You probably don’t want city dirt transferring from your stroller wheels to floors where your baby crawls!

(warning: make sure to remove children before activating stow function).” See one solution we like, here. 3. With a little know how, almost any stain will come out. My dog has stained my sisal rug and I have dropped wine but every time I try to clean it, it leaves a warp or pucker whatever you call it and now this fairly new rug looks aweful

The hydrogen peroxide has now stained the sisal rug making it worse than it was with the stain. I’m in a rental house and don’t know what to do to solve this problem. Of course, the rug is custom. Someone help!

Your first thoughts — Flip it over! — were quickly thwarted after realizing it had a rubber backing. Luckily, Mellau have been manufacturing sisal carpets runner & rugs since 1929 the traditional way and offer their range without any backing, so you can flip it over and get two wears for the price of one.

I too have stained my sisal with peroxide. I was wondering if I could stain or paint it.
