I woke at 6 am to watch the oscars here in New Delhi. First off, a congratulations is in store to Slumdog Millionaire - secondly, curry powder? There is no such thing! That is a Western Created item - you know - to simplify cooking Indian.

That is ironic, now that I realize how easy cooking Indian can be. For those of you who are really interested in cooking good & simple Indian food - I'd try Madhur Jaffrey's cook book. This Christmas, we were feeling inspired to learn to cook Indian after 7 months in Delhi. We asked around for a good cookbook & the consensous here in India was that this was the book to buy. Imagine our surprise to find that the book was approachable & the recipies tasty. So, go ahead - cook great indian at home. Best part? it is only 23 bucks in hardcover on amazon.

The Curried Roasted Chickpeas were delicious, but I don't think I'd make them again. This is my first experience cooking with curry powder and wow that is pungent stuff. My house still smells like curry 3 days later! Any ideas for getting rid of the odor?

Glad you guys liked the recipes!

Petra--Australian food is a great idea. I didn't even think about that! I just went to an Australia Day party here in NY (hosted by some homesick Aussies) and they served sausage rolls, pavlovas, anzac cookies, and of course, vegemite on toast, and lots of Australian beer and wine.

V fun! This reminds me of my old film club in Richmond, Virginia. Think book club, but we were too busy (i.e.; lazy) to read books. The food served at club would often be themed to the film. For our comparitive analysis of Real Women Have Curves and Bend It Like Beckham, I served masala and taquitos with margaritas to drink. Wish I'd had the mango lassi recipe then!

So that's how you make a mango lassi! Thanks for the recipe.
I've been making/drinking elaichi (cardamom) lassis lately like they're going out of style. I'm curious to try this version!
