five things we learned last week

1. Sadly, our local Targets aren’t stocking the stuff we crave. As Nap said: “My Target has the worst selection of the Orla Kiely goods and I couldn’t be more disappointed!” Luckily we have a little stash of her cute things to giveaway! Click here for a chance to win!

2. Those super soft toilet papers aren’t just bad because they use too many trees.
As Karen in Wichita says: “Having just paid the big bucks for still more maintenance on our aging sewer system, I’d have to point out that toilet paper choice is really a three-factor decision: comfort, environment, and sewage. Septic tanks are even more suspectible to the stuff, of course, and it’s pretty much axiomatic that the better the stuff feels, the worse it is about clogging pipes and/or not breaking down in the system.” Click here to weigh in on the great recycled toilet paper debate.

3. Painting just got easier thanks to a Teflon paint tray. Nick Klaus says: “That seems like such a simple thing, but so useful. like when they re-designed the paint cans. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.” Click here to read all about it.

4. Got ants? You can deter them without chemicals.
Bev Bourne says that in addition to bay leaves, she once “put out slices of spearmint gum (still in wrapper). Don’t know which of the two remedies worked, but problem solved.” Read more about these two ideas here.

5. We love the idea of adding a touch of life-like faux nature to our walls. Connie wrote about “These fluttering metal dragonflies that are 3D and look like they’re flying off the wall. I saw them in a local boutique a few weekends ago and they look super pretty (very light), I just don’t have a spot on my wall for them!” Click here to see some pretty crocheted butterflies.
