I’m a freshman in college, so this is the first time I’ve had to spring clean without the conveniences of home (ie vacuum, abundant cleaning supplies, or even a broom for that matter). So I started by cleaning out my drawers. It’s worked wonders! Clean drawers make me want to organize everything else since there’s an assigned place for each item. Cleaning from the inside out is definitely the way to go. Now if I could just get my roommates to clean, too…
I also open all the windows the moment it’s warm enough to let a clean cross breeze freshen up the house. Then a vase of fresh flowers makes me feel like I’m coming home to a brand new house!
it wasn’t on purpose, the other day the sink in the laundry room that leads into the kitchen overflowed during a load of laundry, water was everywhere. We quickly opened the door in there and pushed the water out. While the door was out and I was mopping the floors I noticed how much brighter and cheery the kitchen looked with more natural light. Mopping the floors was more fun in that light.
Fresh air and sheets that aren’t flannel! Love the sheets in November. Tired of them by March.
I open every single window in the house. Nothing makes you feel more excited for summer than the invigorating feel of crisp air in your home.
To freshen things up for spring, I tuck away all the extra bedding and put something light on the bed, usually in a brighter color. Gotta lose the flannel sheets. Usually let the air circulate a bit when it finally warms up!
I change some vases and decorations on the table and use lighter color things. I loved the rhubarb set from last year!
Since we have 3 dogs & 2 boys our spring cleaning revolves around touching up those dings on the walls & painting !
Opening the windows to let in the light and breeze is a huge thing. However, more importantly to me is to give the entire house a good cleaning. This means washing curtins, windows, floors, walls, etc. Then, after all that hard work, being able to relax on my porch.
I am giving everything a thorough cleaning – the floors, the curtains, the windows! And these products rock!
Here in northern Minnesota, as soon as the snow melts enough for me to get to my outdoor clotheslines, our bed sheets are the first items hanging out there, followed by blankets, quilts and scatter rugs. There is nothing more heavenly than to sleep under sheets that have dried outside. It’s the best smell in the world.
I just wish I could do that today when it is sunny with gusty winds. Unfortunately, there is still a foot of snow on the ground. I am tempted but I would need snowshoes to get there!
Being an apartment dweller in a college town, spring cleaning usually involves moving! However, I try and take these few lovely months to SLOWLY and THOROUGHLY clean my apartment – if I’m moving, it makes things sooooo much easier (after all, the more I get rid of the less I have to move!), and even if I’m not, it always feels good to purge!
I like to open all the windows and doors to get a HUGE, long blast of fresh air!
I let my kids play outside. When they come in they smell so fresh and green!
to start, fresh flowers in the kitchen and bedroom, window boxes for all the windows filled with new buds and new yellow sheets and bedding! excitement all around! i need this, i live with all boys…. messy boys, i use mrs. meyers all purpose cleaner on a weekly basis and im getting low.
i always do a top-to-bottom spring cleaning, then change out the accessories to the appropriate season. i switch out my favorite winter themed photos to more springy ones- can’t have santa photos out when the easter bunny is coming! i bring out the lighter color pillow covers, etc.
i alway buy a bunch of fresh flowers as my reward and while the bulk go in the dining and living room, i always put at least one bloom in each room as a sweet reminder of warmer days to come.

I made my own Febreze using a combo of essential oils with cheap vodka as a base (smell evaporates very fast). I spray upholstered stuff with it when things are getting stuffy-smelling and it’s too cold to do a full airing-out of the house.

We open windows on breezy days, and haul things outside to sit in the sun and fresh air (futon, rugs, ourselves).
I clean the windows and then keep them open for a while! Bright windows and fresh air makes me feel warm days are not far away!
We spray our bed pillows with a very light spritz of all natural cleaner and leave in the sun all day. The sun seems to bleach, clean and freshen everything. Alsol we pick up all our rugs shake them out and leave them in the fresh air all day. All our duvet covers get a good cleaning and we are ready for the warm summer nights to come.
Also, today I dumped a bunch of baking soda down our kitchen and bath sinks to clean them up a bit.
I welcomed Spring with a day of cleaning using 20 Mule Borax!
Open all the windows, dust everything, and clean the floor!
1) Open the windows to flush winter smells from the house.
2) Do the deep clean of the whole house.
3) Get rid of the clutter that isn’t being used and won’t be used, and donate to charity.
4) Set a vase of fresh flowers on the table to celebrate Spring!
I recently moved into a tiny house that has lots of windows BUT NO window screens! So two weeks ago I made screens for my windows so I could enjoy the cool evenings! Love it!
Next curtains to blow in said breeze.
I am going to do some serious window washing!
I drag the deck chairs and table out of the shed, get the flower pots ready, wash the windows… well, okay, I make the kiddo wash the windows. Isn’t that the point of having kids? Making them do the crummy chores?? :) All the sunlight streaming in the windows seems to make it impossible to ignore the dark corners that winter created. There’s always one weekend when I start cleaning and just don’t stop ’til it’s done.
I change the dining table linens to spring colors, put new covers on the throw pillows, put a lighter colored throw blanket over the couch, bring out my spring colored cups and glasses, switch out the deep red shades for white airy curtains, change bed linens to all white, sit back and have a nice mango smoothie instead of hot chocolate :)
I need some spring cleaning motivation – maybe this will help get me going :)
I will be spring cleaning throughout this week and on Saturday doing the big stuff- shining the wood, clearing basement cobwebs, etc. I’m really looking forward to peeling back the dead leaves in the garden and seeing what’s sprouting! What a lovely, exciting time of year.
I would love this to make my house smell clean and springy!
Fresh flowers in every room!
I live in a tiny studio, so spring cleaning means it’s time for a purge of all the unused (and long forgotten!) stuff tucked away in boxes under the bed and in the closet.
I mow the lawn and open all the windows in the house. Then I dust everything top to bottom, change out all the bedsheets, and look for a place to hang the hammock for the rest of the day.
Part of spring cleaning that differs from regular cleaning is getting all the outside areas tidy and ready for backyard hangouts. Our back screened-in porch needs to be rid of the layers of dust it collected over the winter!
I open windows and put away things like heavy blankets and flannel sheets. I also need flowers this time of year-pansies, daffodils, tulips. I got a bunch of 10 daffodils for $1.99, and it makes things look so cheerfull!
We like to change the heavy, winter curtains for the lighter-colored linen curtains, sweep off cobwebs all around the outside of the house, and wash the big living room windows, inside and out. Let the sun shine in!
I need cleaning inspiration! Maybe the new scent will get me to move away from the computer and clean something…finally…
1. Daffodils. Bunches of them.
2. A squeaky clean, freshly brushed pooch.
3. Taking a vacuum to the edges of the molding, where the furballs like to hang out.
4. Open windows.
5. Nap. Nothing facilitates spring cleaning like a good nap.
I bring in fresh flowers & vacum my houe from top to bottom. I also take down any drapes or curtains and throw them in the wash. Lastly, I mop the floors which kind of get neglected during the year. Oh, and one more thing…I give away a lot of the kids’ toys that they’ve outgrown and gather up the clothing too for giveaway.
i count on all the sunlight coming in through the windows to reveal dust and dirt wasn’t as visible during winter’s overcast days.
Open windows, change throw pillows, clean out cabinets, store coats and scarves and shovels and blankets, buy new plants!
I change over a number of accent items like my cooking spoon jar and chandelier shades from red to blue. Now our friends always say, “It must be spring because the blue stuff is back!” And I get a new doormat.
I change out all of the bed linens — swapping the darker, heavier colors and fabrics for lighter weight and softly colored blankets.
Open those windows and clean everything like crazy! I love the feeling of the wind coming in through the windows when power cleaning!
I summon the magical cleaning fairies to clear the clutter and dust.
it’s not quite spring in Montana yet (well, we had a nice 50 degree day followed by 8 inches of snow, doh!) but I’ve already started weeding out all of the winter clothes that didn’t get much wear this year. i always have a goodwill box going and when it’s full i drop it off at the donation site.
i’m looking forward to taking down the heavy curtains, changing out the blankets and being able to hang our laundry outside to dry again.
love the meyers line, my sis has a 1 year old and she swears by the stain remover!
I start seeds so I can transplant them outside when it’s warm enough. On nice days, I open a few windows and let the fresh air in. I also wash and store winter blankets, and clothes. Some of our clothing get donated to a large area garage sale. That way we can thin things out.
The spring cleaning mood doesn’t strike twice, so when I have it– I pounce on it! Just like everyone, I love to open up the windows first. Then I grab my wireless headphones that are huge and make me look like a martian and I dance and sing around the house while I vacuum, dust and organize! I make sure no one is home :)
Throw things away! The best way to freshen up for Spring is to clean out and SIMPLIFY! -Emily
I throw out things from my closet that hasn’t had any wear in the past year, I clean all the walls and windows and open up all the windows for fresh air. All of this is done with a strong drink at the ready (you’ll need at least one!) and lots of loud music to get me hopping!
