design inspiration: vintage disney by mary blair

I’ve been infatuated with the collage art and paintings of Mary Blair ever since my husband purchased a book of hers at a used book store. She was an artist and design consultant for Disney back in the 1960s — her work was the inspiration behind the art in Alice in Wonderland, and she also designed one of my favorite Disney rides, “It’s a Small World,” for the 1964 New York World’s Fair. I think her fun, vibrant collage patterns would make ridiculously amazing wallpaper or fabric — Disney should license that pronto! If you’re interested in owning an original concept painting from “It’s a Small World,” you can find one here, but if you don’t have $20,000 to spend, you can purchase the book The Art and Flair of Mary Blair from Amazon, $30. –Megan B.
