five things we learned last week

1) A great idea shines through even in a small photo. Ita-darling says of Readymade: “i thought the last issue was kinda weak, but my favorite thing in the whole issue was the tiny pic of the wheelbarrow fire pit. love it!!!” See it here.
2) Our readers will test products for us! Abby says of the staple-less stapler: “I’ve had mine for years and love it. Just experimented on the giant stack of papers that came home with the boy on the first day of school:
5 pages: works perfectly
6 pages: chokes a little
7 pages: didn’t want to release its death grip, but finally did after I sweet talked it a little.”
See the staple-less stapler (and reader Jess’s link to a different, super-cute version) here.
3) Homemade ice cream fans are David Lebovitz fans. Nicole says: “Going to absolutely endorse and recommend anything by David Lebovitz, check out his blog, there are several wonderful ice cream recipes there, and purchasing a copy of The Perfect Scoop would not be remiss either.” Several other readers also encouraged Megan B. to check out his blog for perfect ice cream recipes. Sounds tasty!
4) Cold brewing gets rave reviews. You like coffee, you like tea, you like it cold brewed. CityMinx says: “I’ve been doing this for a few weeks, and I love it! I’ve used Earl Grey tea, fruit, mint, green teas, and my favorite is putting some lemon verbena (fresh or dried) in a muslin teabag. it’s true, the bitterness is either non-existent or barely there at all.” Click for more on cold brewing.
5) You also love your Aerolatte. No matter who makes the frother, you love it. Brooke says: “I love my IKEA ones. ($1 – can’t beat that!) I use one for coffee/milk and the other I use to emulsify salad dressings and sauces – it’s perfect! Great for making a teeeny bit of whipped cream too if you’re in the mood and have the time!
