I took the HomeGoods StyleScope quiz, and just as I suspected, I’m an “earthy modern.” Silly as that sounds, it makes sense to me — I love to garden, I love mid-century modern decor, and lately we’ve been using bright colors to liven up our space quite a bit. But obviously an online quiz can’t help you with every decorating dilemma, so HomeGoods wants to do you one better — they’re offering a $200 gift card for two lucky Shelterrific readers who are ready to change up their style!

Here’s how to enter to win a $200 HomeGoods gift card:

- Go to the HomeGoods site and take the HomeGoods StyleScope quiz.
- Once you get your quiz results, come back to this entry and share your result with the rest of us in comments. Tell us what you think — is it accurate? If so, how could you use the results to spice up your decor?
- If you win, be willing to share a “before” and “after” photo of your space to show how you’ve used your HomeGoods card to add some flair — we’ll be expecting to make you famous in a future post!
- Once comments close, we’ll choose our two favorite entries from the comments. So be specific and have fun.

Please leave your comment no later than Wednesday, September 16, 5 p.m. EST. One comment per person, please.

Thanks, HomeGoods, for making this great opportunity available to our readers! –Mary T.

I’m “earthy modern.” After reading the description, I feel it’s an accurate category for my sense of style. I like clean lines and shy away from frills, tassels, and other frou-frou accents. I grew up playing in seemingly-endless virgin woods, and I think that childhood experience colors a lot of what makes me comfortable in a home. I like natural colors, organic forms, and useful, beautiful objects.

The design challenge (organize the front hall) is right on the money. I’m about to move to a house with a proper entryway, one that isn’t a corner of the living room, so this challenge is a perfect task for me – I look forward to it!

Amy

I am “Global Casual” which I think is more adventurous than I probably actually am. It was still fun though, and I do think that my design challenge of “experimenting” is pretty right on. I love color and patterns but when it comes to committing I get a little freaked out sometimes. Also I think living in NY gives me kind of a “I don’t know if I’ll still be in this apartment next year so I don’t want to do big investment type projects.” Sigh.

Caroline

I got Earthy Casual- kind of surprising to me. I definitely agree with the casual part- I have four kids ages five and under so casual is key. I definitely don’t want them to feel like they are living in a museum. But Earthy was what surprised me.

The colors intrigued me, I am going to try to incorporate them.

This was fun, thanks!

Monica

I’m apparently a glamorous classic, which I would never have said and don’t completely agree with. What was absolutely true is that my design challenge is to organize, which actually goes beyond just being a design challenge to being a general life challenge. I did not like most of the colors suggested for me. Unfortunately, there isn’t even a Home Goods store in my state (WA).

Heather

I got Earthy Modern as well. I’d say it’s pretty dead on for my style. I need to work on my family room. The color is right, but the accessories are all so dated it doesn’t feel modern.

Jamie

I got Earthy Casual which fits me perfectly. It is defiantly what I have been going for in my apartment.

My Design Challenge is organize which is dead on. Always struggling with that!

chris

I am country classic which means I need to go ahead and paint the walls white like I want and quit trying to be trendy!

Thanks Jen!

Apparently I’m Global Casual and I think that’s spot on!

chris

chris, you are a COUNTRY CASUAL – no sure about this – country really? nope i’m a mid-century all the way girl. But i guess i do love big, cushy and soft things that you can sink into. …maybe i’m in denial and I’ll be trowing hand-quilted blankets on all my beds before you know it.

Jenne

Hmm, BOHEMIAN CLASSIC. I can see that! I really liked the color palette. Some of the questions didn’t feel like any of the answers fit me, but all in all it was fairly accurate.

kate

There were so many questions where I was in the middle between two answers, so I took the quiz twice. Both times I landed as earthy modern, with blues then golds. The advice was mostly tips on how to be party-ready all the time, which really does suit our impromptu habit of inviting people over for dinner at the last minute. My design challenge is to create a dining/living room where people feel comfortable enough to linger and chat. I’m trying to let go of the idea that things have to be perfect and tidy before guests arrive–Pretty challenging with a toddler on the loose.

shana

I am earthy casual. sounds just about right.

Angela

Earth Casual-yep, that’s me.

Kathi

“Country casual”. I’d say that the description is very much like me – all about comfort, liking a mix of relaxed pieces. The colors were pretty dead on, too – autumn like golds and russets and oranges.

Elegant Modern – Should be “Greyhounds have taken over the couch Modern”!
Greyhounds are considered “elegant” dogs, so i guess it’s right!
The description definitely fits and I like the colors (yellows, oranges) …but interestingly, in actuality the colors in my home lean more towards teal, grey, green, but with burst of the happy oranges and yellows. I definitely got a kick out of the questions…so funny what your answers say about you.

Mari

Earthy Casual -

I like comfort but also crave beautiful elegant looking things, so I know I’m difficult to pinpoint…which is why I just never commit to purchasing anything. I did like answering the questions, but had a hard time with a few – liked too many of the answers, or didn’t like any.

KatieK

Country Eclectic. Hmmm. I’m not so sure about country – it has negative connotations for me, but the blues/green/grey are certainly what I go for. Oh, and my design challenge is: organize. That’s me to a T.

Stephanie

I’m an elegant classic. Elegant?? Sounds like it’s all frills, but in actuality, I’m not terribly old-fashioned. It’s true that I do like warm/cozy, though. I’m all about the vintage, one-of-a-kind pieces, i.e. the blob fish photo I’ve got framed on my nightstand. As a medical student, horribly in debt, the SO and myself rented a basement apartment, a one bedroom, stuff-a-desk-and-table in a corner sort of space. My IKEA dresser is falling apart after a year, so my socks are constantly strewn on the floor, adding to the “cozy” ambience. The “classic” brown/light blue hues on the bed – oh how I’d love to change them to a unique quilt/throw, purchase a cozy featherbed to collapse onto after overnight calls at the hospital. I’d say goodbye to the picked-up-on-the-curbside massive table in the corner, buy something smaller and maximize my space. A little nighttable for the SO, vs. the plastic drawers he currently uses would be nice. And a nice, colorful rug, some vintage-print curtains…

I’m an “earthy modern” which I think represents more of an aspiration for me than reality at the moment. My husband and I are remodeling our first house and we are beyond frustrated. The quiz is dead-on about my need for quality craftsmanship–it’s the reason we haven’t gotten more done since we moved in three years ago. Quality craftsmanship is expensive! I’ve tried to make environmentally friendly choices that were also aesthetically pleasing, while not completely blowing our budget. It’s incredibly difficult in our neck of the woods (Birmingham, Alabama). Our house is a work in progress, but having a more concrete idea of my style will help me create a more cohesive and inviting home. The quiz had some really good advice for pulling my wildly different furniture and accessories together, and the colors they picked for me are actually walls colors in my house right now. Great quiz!

Kathryn

The StyleScope must be psychic! If someone would have asked me what my style is, I’m sure I would have said something similar to “earthy casual.” I do enjoy making people feel welcome and comfortable in my home. And now that I have one year-old twins, I am especially interested in having items that are well made. I’m also interested in serenity and harmony, but those are a little hard to come by these days! Thanks for the color ideas! Even if I don’t win a gift card, those tips will help us decorate our new house.

I got “Country Classic”….a title that I balked at until I read through it. I really do love to have vintage pieces that have a history, be it family heirlooms or something picked up at Goodwill. Almost all of my wood is painted (a horror to some, i know!) and I get such a thrill out of mixing and matching my various finds from thrift stores with more modern pieces picked up at, say, Ikea. My greatest design thrill is to find some funky thing and find a way to incorporate it into my decor as an accent piece.

If I were to win, I’d snazz up my kitchen/dining room. I have an old library table I scrounged up in my mother’s basement that I repainted with a crackle glaze, and some mix-matched chairs covered with a unifying fabric…but I can’t get the right feel to the room. I have some art in there that isn’t quite going as I’d like, and the room needs curtains! I’m looking for a unifying theme, and to be more cohesive with the more brightly colored living room…basically it just needs help! :)

Earthy Casual. Almost right on. and I am ready to sort out my entry hall, and a whole lot more. I am more daring with color than they said. I am hopelessly attracted to wood and natural elements and then I hit hard with a few pops of bright colors and graphic elements. Our home, almost done, is a clear result of a graphic designer and a woodworker… of course, almost done is also a result of the shoemakers children having no shoes… and a recession.

Lucy

Earthy Casual. Design Challenge: Unify. Boy, does that suit me. I have a mishmash of styles from family heirlooms and my own more contemporary style. Oh well. I keep decluttering and moving out what I don’t love or use anymore. I am thinking about painting all my furniture white or black.
Lucy

I’ve been pegged as global casual, and I do think that’s right. Also love the blue palette they showed me, too.
