I took the HomeGoods StyleScope quiz, and just as I suspected, I’m an “earthy modern.” Silly as that sounds, it makes sense to me — I love to garden, I love mid-century modern decor, and lately we’ve been using bright colors to liven up our space quite a bit. But obviously an online quiz can’t help you with every decorating dilemma, so HomeGoods wants to do you one better — they’re offering a $200 gift card for two lucky Shelterrific readers who are ready to change up their style!

Here’s how to enter to win a $200 HomeGoods gift card:

- Go to the HomeGoods site and take the HomeGoods StyleScope quiz.
- Once you get your quiz results, come back to this entry and share your result with the rest of us in comments. Tell us what you think — is it accurate? If so, how could you use the results to spice up your decor?
- If you win, be willing to share a “before” and “after” photo of your space to show how you’ve used your HomeGoods card to add some flair — we’ll be expecting to make you famous in a future post!
- Once comments close, we’ll choose our two favorite entries from the comments. So be specific and have fun.

Please leave your comment no later than Wednesday, September 16, 5 p.m. EST. One comment per person, please.

Thanks, HomeGoods, for making this great opportunity available to our readers! –Mary T.

I got “Global Casual,” and it’s perfect for me considering my bedroom has a subtle global, African safari-inspired theme. The paint I just used for the walls is actually very close to the “Happy Home colors” that Homegoods picked for me! As my results say, I like order despite and eclectic taste. That means I’d use my gift certificate to organize and keep my possessions neat and pleasing to the eye. The zebra print rug, mosquito net over my bed, and assorted green plants are enough to look at!

jer

earthy modern in blues and greens. Pretty accurate. Although as a hetero married guy, the questions seemed very female centric.

Heather

Mine was “Dramatic Modern”. And it’s pretty dead on. Now, if only I could translate that to my house, I’d be great. As a renter, it’s hard to get the exact style I want without painting. And of course, there is the giant t.v. and video games that get in the way. Not that I’m complaining. I like that damn t.v., but it’s huge!!!

Kim

My style is Earthy Casual – and yes, that is me to a T! We have a busy home with kids, dogs, etc. I spend so much of my time trying to keep it clean and uncluttered that the little touches seem to get forgotten. I tend to stick all my stuff away behind cabinet doors, instead of pulling it out to display – my counters and tables usually have practical items on them, not decorative items. Taking this quiz and getting these results was quite inspirational – I am going to ‘clear the decks’ put away the practical stuff and or mix it with decorative items that I have tucked away. I am also going to keep an eye out for decorative pieces that are favorite expressions of me and my family to give my home that final bit of pop ;-)

I’m a DRAMATIC MODERN. Totally accurate. This especially – “You value order. You feel happiest if your home is well organized. You understand that when your house is in order, your mind feels clearer. Rather than a lot of meaningless objects or overly-designed items, you are happier with a few well-placed things. Your home is your respite from a busy life.”

My mantra is that everything in my house is functional or beautiful and preferably both.

Ellie

I wouldn’t have said it, but I guess I’m a Bohemian Classic, though the description is right on- refined sensibility, a sense of history and tradition with a little touch of quirk or humor to reflect what you love- a value on beauty and craftsmanship.

My goal is to bring in more light sources, overhead and mirrors especially. I would love to do a before and after on my mantel wall.

Lynne

I am Country Classic which is true, whether I know it or not! My design challenge is to UNIFY which is exactly what I need to do. I keep trying, but in little steps and what I need to do is one big step to bring it all together. Hard to do with no budget these days. The colors are all purple/blues which is so very true, yet I have been trying to branch out from these colors and have a lot more reds and warmer colors. I hate to get stuck in one color scheme — which is part of the problem! My house is always a work in progress, so I guess I just keep working on it!

Courtney

Earthy Casual- spot on! I was surprised at the accuracy of this quiz! It points out that the ‘last mile in decorating is the hardest’- that’s where I am at, I need to add in some exciting risky peices to really pull everything together. My design challenge is to ‘Experiment’- I shall! Thanks for the opportunity!

lindsey k

Apparently I’m a “Country Classic”? Seems like an oxy-moron but the description makes pretty good sense. I definitely go with more muted colors with small doses of bright items. Think I may need to buy a few pillows and accessories. And the non-working fire place and mantel need serious help. Fun giveaway!!

Laura

“Global Casual”. I don’t label my home style, but there are certainly casual elements. I have a dog and a husband, after all. And there are definitely global elements in my textile collections. Most of the color suggestions were appealing–orange and yellow are big in my current apartment. But I like to throw in grass green and navy blue. Their neutral suggestions would be worth trying. Thanks!

Carol

I got Bohemian Eclectic, which definitely describes the style I aspire to. I basically want my home to look like the Anthropologie store, minus the cost of buying things from Anthropologie and the like and with the comfort in knowing that I purchased or found or scouted the items and put them together/coordinated them myself. So, I guess next steps for me are to scout some key pieces at garage sales or estate sales or consignment shops and then purchase some basics to go along with them. That was fun! Thanks!

I went to the site to try it out but alas, the form doesn’t seem to accept Canadian postal codes : ( Can’t get past the entry page. Any way around this?

what do you know, i’m earthy casual too! Kinda thought i’d be more modern… but the colors shown are almost exactly what we had painted in our last house. Lots of beeswax, brown and honey colors… I’m definitely not trendy and have a very eclectic mix of furniture and accessories, so maybe i’ll keep with the same paint colors in our new place? We are totally a “before” photo right now as we’ve just moved in and need to paint, etc…

Valerie

It told me I was Bohemian Casual with the same colour choice as you have posted. Not really feeling either the description or the colours. So I don’t really feel I go with their decision, but I do like some of their suggestions. (Oh, and I am in Canada and just put in a NYC postal code.)

Sharon

I’m a country casual. I never would have thought of myself as a “country” person, but the description seemed to fit pretty well. I loved the colors that were chosen – blues and violets. And my design challenge is organize. I go nuts when there’s too much stuff in the house. With a husband who doesn’t go nuts about such things, a dog and my first baby on the way, it’s still going to remain a challenge!

I am Global Modern:) I think it fits rather well. I like how it said that I tend to fear the last touches because that’s where expression and personal touch really come from. I always do that so I always feel like the room is always in the state of being worked on and that’s not fun. Lovley quiz!

I am an Elegant Classic.
Intellectually, I suppose that I am, but my house is actually a LOT of mid-century modern which I love.

What I would love to be able to do is to enhance the pieces that I do have with some well-chosen accessories.

I keep clutter to a minimum which keeps me sane and makes cleaning easy – not so much dusting!

Country Classic, which I’m actually a bit uncomfortable with, not being a ruffly-baskety-cluttery kind of girl. So I guess the key question, as I once heard kdlang say at a concert, is “What Country?” Carl Larsson, Cath Kidston, Provencal cottons . . . I’m there.

Not so shockingly I’m a Glamorous Eclectic. My plan is to attack my bedroom with a smokey purple, almost exactly the color chosen for me by homegoods(!), and all white or silver accents. The dark paint color will be contrasted by the white and silver accents and some mirrors, per homegoods advice, to add more light. It will be dramatic, just the way I like. I’m centering the whole thing on this drawing:

http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=10535595

I think, like homegoods said, that it is vital to feel serene and happy in a room in order to feel at home there. That is exactly what I intend to do. With my recent 2 day warning move I could use a bit of serenity.

kath

I was a Country Casual, which I agree with, but my colors were the same as yours, and I’m not really a yellow person, I tend to lean more toward earth tones

Carrie H.

I too am a “Country Casual”, which is not exaaaaaactly accurate. While my design challenge definitely is to organize and I do like blue tones, there’s not a freaking floral pattern or heirloom to be found in my house! Oh well, I guess I’ll have to live with being a little hard to pin down. :)

Bri

It said Earthy Casual, which is pretty spot on for me. I do want people to be comfortable and welcomed into my home, and I do want it to be a sanctuary for my family. I would love for my house to be Pottery Barn put together, but I have neither the money or inclination to simply furnish my entire house from their catalog pages.

The next project on my list is my kitchen, some fun accessories and wall decoration would go a long way to pulling the space together after a complete gut-job remodel (the cabinets should be installed in a few weeks, aack!)

I am “Global Casual”, which is definitely not how I would describe myself. However, looking at my stuff and my house. Definitely fits me to a T. :)

Tiffany, you are an Earthy Casual
You’re interested in creating a welcoming home where people feel comfortable and happiness flourishes. You appreciate the warmth and individuality of natural materials and handcrafted things and are inspired by colors and forms from nature. You love mixing up different textures and are sensitive to the tactile qualities of objects. Your style is grounded and solid, not flighty or frilly. And you are never taken in by the trend of the moment.

You value creativity. You are stylish and fun loving, and can be an inspiration to others. You have a natural sense of drama, and you know you have to be willing to take risks—whether with colors, finishes, furniture choices, or ideas—for your home to stand out. Your home can be happy and lively and the place all of your friends want to be.

Sounds about right. I just wish we had a Home Goods closer!

lulubird6

Well that was fun! I’m Glamorous Classic! Amazingly, it’s pretty spot-on. Not too convinced on my happy home colors, though.

Elements like pillows, throws, overstuffed furniture, and good lighting set the mood. You may also enjoy layering different fabrics or mixing patterns to create a cozy effect.

Min is great! It is totally me with the grounded and solid, and most importantly, comfort. I was kinda surprised about the colors…but one of them is the color of my soon to be first home living room! Exciting!

Kaitie Tee

Hi nice to meet you, I’m Earthy Casual!

Yeah, I’d say that’s pretty accurate.

I’m not so sure about the color palette though. Yellows aren’t really my thing.

Micki

Country Electic … and it fits. The rosy colors surprised me, but actually make sense … and I need more more more patchwork pillows!

Laura

I have been pegged as Elegant Classic. Interesting…according to the description I would have to agree. This elegant classic gal is currently trying to find style in her living space. I would definitely use the gift card to turn my things from a haberdashery into a cosy place to live.

Shannon, you are a Bohemian Classic

You have a refined sensibility and bring a sense of history and tradition into your decor. You appreciate how symmetrical arrangements and beautiful, well-crafted pieces create a solid foundation to a room. But you like to shake up this restraint with objects and accessories that express your personality and your love of other cultures. When traveling, you seek out unique objects that reflect what you love, and you use them in a sophisticated way. You want people to feel comfortable in your home, and cozy chairs, ethnic fabrics, unique pieces, and even a little touch of quirk or humor give your house a laid-back, Bohemian flair.

You value creativity. You are stylish and fun loving, and can be an inspiration to others. You have a natural sense of drama, and you know you have to be willing to take risks—whether with colors, finishes, furniture choices, or ideas—for your home to stand out. I’d call this pretty accurate. I got almost the exact same color palette as you did. It’s funny, because I think of myself as not being particularly fond of yellow, but I think that’s really more the canary and post-it sort of shades. Richer, more golden or orangey-yellows are definitely more my style, so I can see the palette they gave me.

Our place is still all white walls inside after moving in almost 2 years ago. That’s probably the next step I’d need to take to make it really shine – wall color to compliment the accessory colors we already have.

Karla

I also got Bohemian Classic which I feel is a good fit. It also gave me the same warm yellows/oranges which I like accenting my home with but I primarily use lots of blues and neutrals. I’ve gotten pretty good at unifying my mix of things but I could always use more storage pieces as we’re a family who loves games, and books, and what not and pretty baskets and boxes to keep nearby always come in handy.

Rachel

I got earthy casual, which definitely is the right title. Over the past few years, I have graduated college, moved from Chicago to Baltimore, and just recently moved in with my boyfriend. I was always struggling to figure out what I wanted my home (not just my place to live) to be like. Now that I finally feel settled in this city and relationship and life, I am looking forward to taking the earthy casual idea and applying it to a home I can be comfortable in.

I’m an elegant classic! Who knew? I do value comfort and order though. :-)
Something to keep in mind as I fix up my new studio.

Earthy modern here too, same colors as Mary T. I’d say the results were pretty accurate – especially the suggestion to take advantage of my outdoor space, which I have yet to do. But if I win, that’s where I’ll start!

I got Global Modern, which actually sounds pretty accurate in the style description (eclectic taste and appreciation for the streamlined) — and the suggestion to emphasize lighting was spot-on, too!

Apparently I am an “elegant modern”, which I think is a pretty good match!
The results did highlight storage as my big challenge, which is right on the money… however my happy home colors turned out to be almost exactly the ones I just painted over! This was fun :-)

Julia from Canada: before I moved to the States I always used zip code 90210 ;-)

Kathleen

Hmm. Earthy Casual? I don’t think that phrase would have ever come to mind, but the descriptions sounds right.
We’re new homeowners. Our sunroom is a complete “before” photo! Right now we just have a couple plants, two rattan chairs and a garden stool. Definately could use some accessories to add some life to place. Maybe drapes or some pillows for the chairs…

Part of my design challenge is that “one bold piece can set the tone”. Hopefully I can find that piece at HomeGoods… Great contest, Thanks!

I loved it when I saw I am a Bohemian Classic. Well, the classic part was a surprise! It’s not hard to be Bohemian when you’ve been raised by two hippies in a multicultural neighborhood in the 70s and 80s :-)

I loved the suggestions for being party-ready all of the time…I have already made use of the tip to have a drinks tray ready for when guests drop in.

I do feel challenged by the experiementing “design challenge,” which seems risque to my “classic” sensibilities. However, if I won this sweeps I would tackle this task. One suggestion I could try with the gleanings is to consider my passion in a collection of pictures, which I’ll admit- I’ve always stayed away from groupings of photos/art in my own home, opting for the single focal piece. I’m ready to bust out the frames and hang a collage!

Desiree R.

I’m dramatic modern!

The ideas were great: organization, color, and drama. Love it! I feel like I’m always trying to make furniture from Ikea look more awesome than it is with personal touches, but it always looks like…

furniture from Ikea.

Ugh.

Since we just moved to the south, our home has a wonderful parlor with great glass french doors. We have just a table in there, but it would be awesome if we could actually DO something with it. You know, make it into an actual parlor where we could sit and hang out with our new friends. Putting pieces that stimulate conversation into that room is a dream of mine, along with helping turn our new house into a wonderful home!

Jen

Julia @7:38am, I think the reason why it wants a zip code is so it can tell you the closest HomeGoods store. Just pick any American zip code. Mine is 97405 if you just want to use mine. :-)

My results: Bohemian Classic. It’s pretty right on, actually! I love color – my house has pretty much every color represented. It’s mostly in accessories, although I do have a blue couch! But otherwise, I am sadly constrained by the rules of my apartment – no paint! Venetian blinds! Oatmeal carpet! Sigh.

My biggest problem is clutter. I just can’t seem to let anything go! I realize that getting a $200 gift card to get more stuff is probably not the best idea (!) but I’d love the chance to unify my space. Window treatments in the living room would be great, or maybe a large area rug to help define my living room space as separate from the dining room area. Maybe a large mirror to improve the Feng Shui? I don’t know, but I’d love to chance to find out!

jessica

elegant modern, fits perfectly! loved Domino so I am happy to see this new website. Also love shelterrific!!!

bohemian eclectic =)

Wendy

I am “Elegant Classic” … which definitely seems right :) And my Challenge? Unify – which is pretty accurate as well. Now if I could just win the lottery so I could buy new furniture to match my style!

I know my “style” is in it’s neophyte phase … but I am starting to learn how to match pieces together. My biggest challenge is cost – money is really tight right now, so it’s hard to find the extra money to replace a couch that doesn’t *really* need to be replaced.

I just went to HomeGoods for the first time a few weeks ago and was really impressed! I was able to get a new table runner and placemats to update our dining room a little bit. I might not be able to buy a new dining set, but at least I can dress it up :)

Sarah

I am Country Eclectic. Pretty spot on with the description – though they said my colors were various shades of yellows and browns which is pretty far off. Otherwise, there are some great suggestions included.

jenny

I am country classic which mostly makes sense. Definitely my challenge is to unify. My style probably should be cast-off cheap. We moved in to this house from a boat, so we had nothing and took what we could get. I tend to focus on keeping things organized and picked up rather than unified. I have a suspicion that if I had more of a style things would not get to looking sloppy so quickly. My colors were the same as yours which is not wrong, but I love color and a much brighter palate.

Elegant Class was my stylescope. I love classic stuff but I am not sure how elegant the stuff I like is. The colors were right on. I love red.

Lauren

I got Bohemian Classic, which, though the words throw me off, actually fits. I like objects with interest and an unique history but also like some structure and sophistication.

I’m not sure I agree with the “happy colors.” The challenges are correct, though.

Country Casual was my stylescope. They got the easygoing unique approach correct, but I really don’t care for (or have in my home) the majority of things they mentioned…like teacups, garden chairs, weathered furniture or ANYTHING floral.

“You value comfort. Your home is a warm and open friendly place, and you feel happiest when everyone is cared for and relaxed in your space.” That assessment it correct too, I just don’t do that with anything country…I think it’s more eclectic, vintage, and contemporary.

Oh, and the “happy colors”…do not make me smile very much. I like vibrant colors and paint/decorate my home accordingly. If it is bright and cheerful I love it! From my bright red dining room to the sunshine yellow kitchen over to my eggplant library and brightly colored bedrooms and bathroom my kids share…we are looking more at a Skittles approach to color, and THAT makes me happy.

Tara

Oooh! I was so excited to take the quiz since it gave color suggestions. Our whole townhouse is cream and blues. So I took the quiz and found out I’m an earthy casual and my colors?….you got it all blues! LOL! It did suggest a deep blue/green color though that I think would look fab in my bathroom that has glossy white trim.

I’m Bohemian Eclectic.

It cannot be anymore true. I’m all over the place in terms of styles. I despise matchy matchy furniture. I scour flea markets, craigslist and ebay for fun items all the time – from furniture to decor to clothes. I love to support local artists by buying from them as much as possible (from artwork to jewelry to food). I crave warmth and coziness in a home.

I’m all of the above and more, yet my apartment is half empty because:

- I’m patient and willing to wait for the perfect piece(s) or I’m just too picky. I don’t want to go and buy something “for the time being” just to end up keeping what I don’t really truly love for 10 years.

- Wee tiny teensy budget.

There was a question in the test where one of the answers was about a mess of an entryway. That’s it for me – the entryway/hallway is a danger zone. Books, chair, mirrors on the floor, more books, dropped bags, just STUFF! Makes me a bit nuts…I’m looking for the perfect table to make an uncluttered, functional entryway and it’s harder than one might think…
