look! eaves painted red

redeaves
A friend shared a photo of his home paint job in progress, and I love it so much I had to share. They’re in the process of having their mid-century home exterior painted a deep gray, with eaves painted a bright red to contrast. I’ll share photos of the finished house too, but couldn’t resist this sneak peek — amazing what some color can do, and since the red is under the eaves, it won’t be overwhelming. –Mary T.

I would be careful with the house color if doing something like this.

There is a house we drive past regularly with a large porch floor painted bright red. It is absolutely charming, and a great fit for the style of house.

Except: the house is painted white, and the red reflects, making it look distinctly pink, which is a little less charming.

This may not be as much of a problem with eaves, since they are in the shade. (the effect is definetly stronger on a sunny day) but something people should consider and test before they’re surprised.
