five things we learned last week

1) Sequin decor? It’s as simple as DIY. Simone says: “I have purchased sequined dresses and tops from the Salvation Army, cut them up and used the fabric to make patch pillow cases, placemates, a skirt I paired with a long sleeved Old Navy T shirt and cuffs that I added to the tee — HAPPY NEW YEAR!” Indeed! See the shiny happy decorating.
2) You rang in the new year with blackeyed greens and eggs. Three of you tried Megan B’s recipe! Jaymie says: “It’s yummy! I didn’t use ham, and it doesn’t taste like it’s missing anything. Feels healthy and hearty.” See the blackeyed greens and eggs recipe.
3) Your food obsessions sound delish. Simone says: “Dried apricots that I stuff with a roasted almond — I pop them in my mouth as quickly as I make them.” That sounds like something we’ll be trying. What’s your food obsession?
4) Despite the source, you can tell time. Pencils says: “I have an M&CO ‘Askew’ watch (my favorite watch) where all the numbers are in the wrong places. I can’t tell you how many people ask me how I can tell the time with it. I always want to roll my eyes but I restrain myself and say something like ‘I manage.’” See the Unfinished Clock here.
5) Sometimes felted soap doesn’t work out. Pk3v says: “I bought one of these after eyeing them on a few visits to Anthro, and have sadly got to warn folks against them. They smell and look great, BUT… when I use it in the shower, it doesn’t really lather. It’s a little better if the soap’s completely soaked, but not by much.” Have you tried felted soap? What do you think?
