tyler thompson redesigns the boarding pass

Having just returned from a vacation where I boarded four different planes, this idea from the creative director at Squarespace really hit home. Tyler Thompson was so bothered by the design (or lack thereof) of boarding passes, he decided to give it a redesign. Thompson thought about which items on the boarding pass he needed to reference, and used this information to create a clean, user-friendly design. I don’t think I realized how terrible boarding passes were until I saw Thompson’s makeover. Now if only the airlines would get a clue. — Erica P.

Tyler’s making a very valid point! Even if airlines used a grayscale theme to save on printing costs, this boarding pass seems much better all around!
You would also need to design new boarding pass printers. How would you print the flight info in white, against a colored background? Well, I’m assuming that black stripe would be already on the blank boarding pass.
Grayscale is fine, and even that could be a curious way to play with it all. What’s key is how attractive AND readable this one is!
I like that these are readable and the information is easy to see at a glance. Just think of how much time you can save by not bumping into someone who is trying to stare down at their ticket in the middle of the aisle. This also somewhat reminds me of a large Warhol Campbell soup painting, making something little easy to read.
