five things we learned last week

1) All school lunches are not created equal. Beth says: “I usually make my kids’ lunches, but I do get my 6 year old ‘hot lunch’ once a week. The service that provides lunch at his school is great– they have a lot of relatively ‘exotic’ choices that I think some of the older kids eat (sushi, fruit salad with yogurt, Caesar chicken wrap, hummus and pita, etc.). They always have an organic choice, too. …I’m really pretty happy with it, but… my son attends an independent school.” What do your kids eat for lunch?
2) Clearly marked chopping boards make life easier for vegetarians and cat owners. Tyna Says: “I must have these cutting boards. Love how they are protected when stored (my cat loves to rub up against/sit on any cutting board on the counter). Plus the clearly marked purpose of each board is so great, especially for me a vegetarian living with carnivores. Thanks.”
3) Sprinkle cookie bars take us back. Pam Kueber says: “i swear, this is the first-ever recipe taught to me in 8th grade home ec class. as if it were ‘real cooking.’” It’s not?! See the recipe here.
4) Spaghetti: It’s what’s for cleaning. Leslie, the cleaning coach says: “I love these scrubbers! They are great for Pampered Chef stoneware and wood cutting boards. I use them anywhere I don’t want soap to infiltrate my cooking.” Learn more here.
5) The Impossible Project also deserves credit for Polaroid film. Nancy says: “What Polaroid leaves out of all of its little announcements is that NONE of this would be happening if not for the IMPOSSIBLE PROJECT….As a Polaroid artist, as well as someone who knows the hard work and grassroots activism that it has taken to bring back Polaroid-compatible film, it’s outrageous to see this gross admission in the press releases by Polaroid.” Nancy, that’s a group we hadn’t heard of until now — thank you for bringing them to our attention.
