strangely appealing: one-lump-or-two lamp

My day was brightened considerably when I came across this adorable lamp on Anthropologie’s website. Made from stacked porcelain tea cups, the One-Lump-Or-Two lamp looks like it came straight through Alice’s looking glass. Though considerably pricey at $198, I’ve been daydreaming about displaying it in a Lewis Carroll-themed library complete with shelves of first editions and these playing card posters decorating the walls. — Katie D.

Ooh, I love this! It’s so whimsical and would look great in the same room as Jonathan Adler’s giraffe lamp (which I also can’t afford!).
$198?! Anthropolgie, you never cease to amaze me
There is a thrift shop in Omak, WA that has been making these for YEARS. They cost significantly less and, of course, come in many colors.
This is adorable… and probably a pretty easy do-it-yourself project with a trip to thrift stores for the base materials, a lamp kit, and a drill with a bit designed for going through ceramic/glass.
I made a candlestick out of old cups & saucers, plus some glue designed to work on glazed ceramic items. It was adorable too, and only cost me about $10.
It’s definitely DIY-able. In fact, I think Anthro copied it from stylist Paul Lowe’s work. Take a peek: http://www.shelterpop.com/2009/12/23/gee-i-wonder-where-anthropologie-got-this-idea/ Looks awfully similar, right?
