strangely appealing: foodpod

This is the most bizarre strainer I’ve ever seen! The The FoodPod, made by FusionBrand, is molded from non-stick silicone and is (top rack) dishwasher safe. Designed to save time when boiling, blanching, and steaming, the FoodPod is sturdy (can hold up to a dozen large eggs), cheap (just $15), and I’m pretty sure the Na’vi* can plug in their tails into the built-in grip clip. — Katie D.

Yes – the Na’vi certainly would like to connect to their broccoli before it gets steamed. It’s something I’ve been trying to do for a while now but to date I haven’t quite achieved the desired results.

I just got one this weekend, I’ll report back once I’ve used it!

I love it! I showed it to my mother and she decided to use her collapsible silicone strainer for the same purpose and said it worked great. I think I’ll still get one of these though, cuz it looks COOL!

Am I the only one who has a problem with boiling plastic?? It looks neat for eggs, but I can’t bring myself to have boiling plastic directly touch food I’m going to eat. It just seems like a bad idea.

I too would worry about the affects of boiling plastic. Love the idea though.

Silicone isn’t technically a plastic, though it displays many properties like plastic. It’s difference is that it’s chemically inert and safe at high temps, which is why you see so many silicone spatulas and baking pans these days. No dioxins or pcb’s! Yay!
