blogwatch: where we’ve been clicking this week

blogwatch

Over at Not Martha, Megan made her own gin. Awesome! We’re thinking about making our own, Hendrick’s style, with cucumber and rose petal!

We are busting out the fabric and thread after seeing this detailed and inspiring tutorial at Design*Sponge on making your own pouf. Via Craft.

Even though Lost is officially over, Apartment Therapy shows us how to bring it into our homes with a Lost-inspired decor roundup.

More sweets that look like sushi! This time, it’s donuts shaped like nigiri. Bet Mr. Sparkle would go nuts for these!

We are really digging wallpapered ceilings these days. Curbly gives us even more to desire with their post, wallpapered ceilings for instant wow factor.

Slacker might be a bit too harsh, but some of us are definitely guilty of some major procrastinating over here. Thankfully, Unclutterer is here to help light a fire under even the most lackadaisical, with it’s motivation tips for slackers.

CasaSugar wowed us with the coolest wedding favor we have quite possibly ever seen: custom beach towel favors for a poolside wedding.

Summer Breezes make us feel fine. And we like to hang our laundry out to dry in them. Retro Renovation’s got the down low on where to buy old fashioned clotheslines, so our clothes can blow through the jasmine of the wind, not our minds.

do you have a memorial day tradition?

memorial day

For some it’s the promise of summer. For others, it’s the extra day off with family and friends. And still for others, it’s the food, or the moment  spent in national reflection. It seems there are innumerable reasons to love Memorial Day, and all of these fall high on my list, but as I get older I’m realizing that much of the appeal is that for me, Memorial Day is always the same. Every year I go home to my parents house. We have  a casual garden buffet across the street with the neighborhood, and all walk down to the corner to watch the annual parade. It’s small town America at its best and while the faces change as children grow up and move away, the tradition of it has stuck, and the simple ritual makes it one of my favorite holidays. And this year, my Grammy’s in town! How about you readers? How will you be spending the weekend? — Sarah C.

attic renovation: it’s finished!

attic_after

Hi Everyone! Just a quick post because we are up to our ears in boxes! We are getting ready to move into our new home this weekend, and are so excited about how our attic renovation turned out. No doubt we will be putting the foam insulation to the test soon as summer temperatures start to heat things up. We added two ceiling fans as well — from Modern Fan — which should help keep things breezy. For now, the walls are just white, and I suspect it will be a while before the space is furnished and box-free. But I am most excited about the 8-feet of closet space we have added! Hooray! I will do some more updates as we settle in! — Angela M.

post off: how do you feel about yard sales?

yardsale

Growing up, I don’t remember ever going to a yard sale, at least not until I was in high school — and by then I was at the age where I hated going with my Mom to look through other people’s stuff. (Ironic, given my love for antiques.) What I do remember, however, were farm auctions: fields full of tools, equipment, old harnesses, generations of accumulated furniture, linens, and magazines, all of which served as perfect mazes to run through with my siblings and friends. While I haven’t been to a farm auction in ages, I have finally become an official suburbanite after staging my first yard sale. It was a ton of effort, but by following tips from the Yard Sale Queen, we got rid of most everything. Plus we taught the kids another way to practice the three Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle). I’m just not ready to do it again for at least another 10 years. What about you? Are you planning a yard sale this year? — Sarah L.

steal this idea: organize your desktop with images

I try to be an organized person. Really, I do, but most days, my desktop looks like it’s on the verge of a digital mutiny lead by a mishmash of uncategorized jpegs and hastily saved documents. Happily, all that is about to change thanks to this ingenious organizational how-to from Shelterpop. My fave tip? Organize with images. Simply download a desktop image, like this minimalist option from ExitCreative, and move your icons into their designated areas, or create your own, like the post’s author Erin Loechner did with her to-do list grid.
