UPDATE: Please note that this contest is open to US residents only. Our apologies for any inconvenience.

True story: I was setting out an oil diffuser with the traditional reeds in a jar and musing over the new Febreze No Spill Wood Diffuser, wondering if “no spills” was a worthwhile benefit, when my hand slipped and I spilled the oil from my (non-Febreze) diffuser on both hands. That stuff smells great in a room, but concentrated on my hands, it reeked. For hours! Suddenly, I realized, Febreze had a point! As the company says, “The No Spill Wood Diffuser technology allows Febreze scented oils to be absorbed into the wood and then diffuse through the air for an authentic scent experience without the worry or hassle of spills.”

Perhaps you’d like to try one yourself? Well, you’re in luck! Our friends at Febreze have given us three No Spill Wood Diffusers to give away to Shelterrific readers! Not only do they smell great (in the air, not on your hands) they look attractive, too! We’re going to do this the old fashioned way: leave a comment on this post by Monday, June 14 at 5 p.m. EST telling us about the room scents you use — diffusers? Others? — and letting us know what you like and dislike about them (and if you’ve ever spilled one on yourself). When the deadline arrives, we’ll use a random number generator to pick three lucky winners. Thanks, Febreze, for making this possible! — Mary T.

i use scented candles and i like thm because it brings life to the room. i would love to try one of the febreeze diffusers too!

Anita

I use scented candles, too, and tend toward “clean” scents rather than florals or heavy, spicy scents. I’ve always avoided oil diffusers because of the possibility of spillage — plus the reeds you have to stick in the bottles just scream “TOY!” to my cat. I’d love to try any of the new Febreze scents, particularly Green Tea Citrus.

We use candles and plug-in the most but I also got a reed diffuser for Christmas last year (now all used up and gone). The clean cotton-type scents or green/citrus scents are a favorite since I’m allergic to lavender and the vanilla ones tend to be so strong they give me a headache.

I haven’t seen the no spill wood diffusers – apparently I am not spending enough time in the air freshener aisle but I like what I see!

Dawn

I love candles and have a plug-in for the bathroom

Kim

My mom is big into Yankee Candles, so I scent my home and office with scented candles from there, as well as reed diffusers. I recently received a bit of a shock when I read the back of one of the diffusers which warned against spilling it onto skin – I wonder if there are health consequences involved with contacting the concentrated liquid?

Ooh, I’d love to try one! I currently use a plug in thing from Bath & Body Works. There is a Method air freshner that looks like a sleek disc, and I really like it, but can’t find it in Target stores anymore.

Living in a house with ten (yes, ten) cats, we know a few things about odor control. Our favorite room scents are oils from Bath and Body which require a tea light. Not always ideal. We’ve used reed diffusers in the past, and trust me, it’s not easy to mop that oil up off a floor (especially mixed with broken glass). We would love to give this a try and would be glad to write about it on our blog! We are already big fans of other Febreeze products. Thanks for the opportunity!

I have a couple of cheap reed diffusers that I picked up at Big Lots during the holidays with cookie or vanilla type scents. I sort of spill proofed mine by placing the whole setup into a large vase from the dollar store and surrounding the base with aquarium decoration rocks/pebbles so that the inner jar is secured.

I usually use sprays or candles. I’ve always steered away from the diffusers because I’m afraid my cat would try to play with it.

Marcie

I have plug-ins on both floors of my house and they work pretty well. I have a diffuser in the coat/shoe closet and have definitely spilled the highly-scented oil on myself while refilling and moving it. Not fun.

Kristi

Usually scented candles in citrus or vanilla scents. We used to have diffusers and really liked them (they last a long time, the scent isn’t overpowering), but never replaced them when the oil ran out.

I like using the same scent throughout the house. I usually use a candle, air spray and fabric spray. I like candles in the winter, but in the summer with the windows open or a fan on, it gets blown out a lot. I haven’t tried diffusers specifically for the spill factor. This sounds like a great idea!

Stephanie

We use candles and fresh fruit.

We mostly use candles and incense, although there is a reed diffuser in the bathroom…which I don’t particularly like the looks of (something about those sort of greasy-looking reeds puts me off!). So I’d love to try this! Thanks!

Ivy

I’m in the candle camp (we found these soy candles that smell like baked goods), but I love the idea of something you don’t have to monitor. I’m always afraid I’ll go to bed with a candle burning.

Carolyn

We use scented candles mostly, and my MIL gave me a (hot pink!) Scent-Egg thingie from B&BW, but I haven’t tried it yet because it’s impossible to take off the plastic cover without a screwdriver. (And I’m too lazy to find the screwdriver when I think about it.)

I’m intrigued about these wood diffusers. I think they’d look great on our mantle!

Ring

I like diffusers because you can smell it throughout the room. I also love candles, but I’m always worried about accidentally knocking it over and starting a fire. I’m a total klutz, so I love the concept of the febreze no spill diffuser!

Ooh! What a neat product! I hope our store will have it soon.

I just recently got my second diffuser, I’ve never really used them before so I’m still new to it. I’m not not crazy about keeping something plugged in my wall for some scent. And with 2 dogs and a cat with her litter box, you need some scent in the house.

Stasi

Hubby likes to burn incense, but I cant convince him to clean up the ashes. I would love a way to scent a room that does not involve me cleaning up ashes!

Lucy

I don’t usually use commercial scents, fresh air works for me, but I would like to try this product. It is uncluttered, unspillable, and attractive. Thanks for the chance.

I actually just found *the* cutest reed diffuser at marshalls, with intricate carved fan shaped reeds – I hated the scent but bought it anyway for the bottle/reeds and ended up pouring in my old apple scented oil. It was quite messy!

I also use scented candles, but they only work when they’re burning, so I typically save them for special occasions or when I need the extra aroma.

If I use anything at all it’s usually candles. They’re subtle, romantic, and not ugly.
This no-spill diffuser is pretty neat too! Very minimal aesthetic. I dig it.

riye

I recently got a reed diffuser as a gift from a friend, and it smelled great but instead of walking into the apartment and thinking “Wow! Is that cranberry?” You got smacked in the face with a giant cranberry hammer. Replaced it with a lemongrass one that’s a bit more subtle (bf was happy to put the cranberry diffuser in his bathroom). I also like the almond candle from L’Occitane–smells like cookies. :-)

Lindsey

I use reed diffusers and potpourri.

Aggie

I sometimes use Diptique candles (and the cost is astronomical) for special occasions and other times I use incense for economical reasons.

Melissa

Hm.

My boyfriend likes scented candles, but I don’t really… While they’re burning, the room is overwhelmed with the scent of “fresh linen” or “cranberry apple spice” but as soon as you blow it out, the scent is gone! I’d rather not have my only choices be “turning it to 11″ or turning it off.

I like scented oils over a candle/warmer diffuser, but the boyfriend doesn’t!

We both like the febreeze sprays, though, especially when we’re cooking (and don’t want our clothes to smell like cooking for hours after).

We’ve never used the reed diffusers, but I’d like to try them. I know it’s going to sound cliche on this post, but I’ve been afraid that I’ll spill them! I’m pretty clumsy, and I know the oils can remove finishes from wood furniture, so I wasn’t willing to risk it!

Jen

I use a Wallflower (plug-in oil diffuser) from Bath and Body Works. My favorite smell is a Christmas-only flavor – Fresh Balsam. Wow, is it divine! I will occasionally use a scented candle but like others have said, it has to be burning to work.

I have a regular diffuser in my bathroom, but the little sticks have a tendency to collect dust (and cat hair!). Would love to try one of these!

I have dry potpourri out in a vase most of the time. And I spray with Febreeze fabric refresher on occasion, and use scented candles whenever I think to.

Jennifer

I like scented candles, but they have to be placed in one my home’s few cat-proof spots. I used to keep a scented candle on my coffee table, until my cat Ozzie jumped into one, spilling lilac-scented wax all over his belly. It was a disaster!

karen

I use the Wallflowers from Bath and Body Works which I like because there’s a wide variety of scents and they’re not all “air freshener” scents and don’t smell cheap but the plug in unit lasts about a month before it conks out and you have to buy a new one. Not very green.

Kimberley

I have the sweet pea wallflower that i bought at Bath and Body works, I loved them, until i got tired of buying a new one every few weeks.

Jennifer

In the winter, I love to boil cinammon on my wood stove. Sometimes I alternate with cloves. You just can’t beat the real smell of those spices.

I usually use candles, but I simply can’t leave the room when one’s burning, and even when I’m present I’m so paranoid the cat will knock it over!

Lisa

I like nag champa incense, though it can be a little much.

Melissa

One thing like doing is using citrus peels in the garbage disposal! It makes the whole kitchen smell nice for hours. I also like the plug-in type scenters, like the Wallflowers from Bath and Body Works. I actually clicked on the Febreeze link in the post above and am excited to see the Noticeables – they look fab!

Pencils

I’ve used the reed ones but they look like an accident waiting to happen to me. But then I have a toddler and a cat. I like scented candles but they’re difficult for me to use, due to the aforementioned toddler and cat. It’s funny but my favorite “room” scent is when I unwrap a new bar of L’Occitane honey lemon soap. Makes the bath and the hallway smell fantastic.

Rebecca

I usually use Febreeze air effects or method non aresol. They are my favorites because they don’t give me a headache (most other brands do!). The one I have now is febreeze – a mango fruity something. But I love the method cinnamon scent. I will use natural essential oils in a diffuser once in a while, but it can get expensive.

Jaymie

I have experienced the spillage that can occur with diffusers and would love this new option in my home!

I love Hawaiian type smells all year, but love cinnamon-y smells during the holidays as well. Though I have found this to be a smell hard to find the perfect one.

Jody

This sounds a lot safer than scented candles that I’ve used for this purpose. They are not always so “subtle”. This doesn’t look too ugly either. I’d like to try it (not on my hands, he,he).

Robyn

Plug-ins are very important in my home. For many years, my ex-husband and I smoked in my house. I quit 2.5 years ago, and have done my best to wash walls and clean as much as I can to get rid of that awful ‘stink’. If I don’t have a plug-in in use, I can smell cigarettes embedded in my furniture, etc. that I just can’t afford to replace yet. I especially love citrus or clean linen scents.

Candles seem to still be the best classic fix. They last long and are relatively cheap. Would love to see how great this new product is!

I have always loved the crackle and flicker of a wood-wick candle! But my soon-to-be father in law is allergic to the slightest bit of smoke from candles (along with a myriad of other things!) so I’m making the switch to diffusers!

Anne

I’ve used reed diffusers, but the cat knocked one over and that was that. This looks great!

tami

we use candles and diffusers. candles are nice, but fire is kinda scary and diffusers are nice but you cant turn them off like you can with candles :) we usually use them in the bathroom or near the litter boxes :)

Sarah

I use traditional candles but have started buying soy candles.

nap

I use scented candles (Yankee Candle Company). The scent isn’t too strong, but I always forget to blow them out before I leave the house. I’m terrified of burning down my house.

I bought a reed diffuser once but spilled it on my hands – I stunk for days!

Jennifer

I use scented candles and one time I tried a plug in thing for the litter box area, but I find them all overpowering if I don’t stop them soon enough. Maybe this wouldn’t do that.

Lisa Smith

I’ve been wanting to try these. Febrese is the only air freshener I use. I have never tried a diffuser for the reason you stated. Just afraid of having the darn thing tip over.

I do love candles too, but am afraid of the fire hazard.
