post-off: what’s on your shower curtain?

I spent last week scouring Chicago for a new shower curtain and finally settled on a gorgeous India-inspired print from Macy’s. It was love at first lather. I never thought I could get this excited about a shower curtain! I keep peeking into the bathroom and getting a surprise jolt of happiness from my mini bathroom makeover. It got me thinking, who else loves their shower curtain? I have one girlfriend who regularly changes her shower curtains each season. She loves her crisp, autumnal colors in the fall, her sharp plaid navy in the winter, and her spring floral in the springtime. What about you, Readers? What’s on your shower curtain? — Katie D.

Pictured above: Anthropologie’s Flamenco Shower Curtain, the Holy Grail of bathroom decor. We hear a lot about this one, but at $118 it remains firmly planted on the lottery wishlist. Anyone have it? We’re jealous!

I love my shower curtain, too! And I’ve had it for years — haven’t gotten sick of it yet. It’s striped linen in shades of white, taupe and light red. Very French! Got it from Anthropologie. It’s very well made.

Actually, I have the white version of the one above! I wanted it forever (it’s made by India Rose, FYI, though Anthropologie does sell it) and finally found someone on eBay selling one for $68. Still more than I’d ever paid for a shower curtain in my LIFE but I figured after a year of wanting one, might as well invest. I wanted pure white but ended up buying hers for the price — mine’s white but each line of ruffle is trimmed in a different pastel color of stitching. I think I actually like it better than plain white.

The downside? It looks nowhere near as beautiful and crisp as that photo. I need to get a steamer — no way am I ironing all of those ruffles.

I had two sailcloths with contrast stitching that matched my bathroom perfectly and opened like tent doors for a luxury enclosed super shower.

I swapped it out for a single clear Target job with the big graphic orange flower one summer and the mostly clear curtain changed my whole bathroom. It only covers maybe half the tub, but that’s all that I really need. Suddenly my white subway tile was the dominant element in the room and everything was so spacious. I love it.

So Mary, the steam from the shower hasn’t helped that curtain? did it arrive super creased? I’m curious how it holds up, as after all it is still on the lottery wish-list.

We have an almost-rainbow striped cotton curtain that we picked up on clearance (!) for $8 in Target last year. It’s a bit of a cheat, as we have a plain white nylon liner on the inside, but the rainbow looks great in our vintage 50s pink bathroom, the exact pop of colour needed in a room like that.

Oh, I LOVE our shower curtain! We got it from Saffron Marigold after YoungHouseLove did a giveaway on their site – I fell in love with the pattern, colors and the manufacturer’s story, and I love it even more in person!

If you want to see it, it’s on:

I have the Flamenco Shower Curtain from Anthro, and I love it! I haven’t had any issues with wrinkles :)

what is this “shower” you speak of?

Ooooh! I don’t have the Anthro one, but now I’m kind of inspired to try to DIY it. Eek!

I made mine out of Heather Ross’ Mendocino fabric – the one with the orange octopi cavorting on a light turquoise background. My bathroom is (seriously!) 5 feet x 8 feet and most of that is taken up by the giant clawfoot tub, so I needed a curtain that would make me smile.

What a girly curtain! I love it!
Mine: the periodic table of elements. It’s getting a little shabby after being bleached a few times in the washing machine so I don’t have to throw it away- because I dig it.
I’d love a cute, girly one but frankly it’s not high on my list of priorities, haha

I love all the fancy curtains! We have a clear world map from Target, but my bf reinforced the holes with grommets to make it much more durable. It’s not as cute as the Anthro one, but it’s much more educational ;)

My curtain feels so plain now after seeing this one. :)

My shower curtain is also from target- a cotton number with seafoam bathroom implements on white fabric. It’s cute, but doesn’t exactly excite me anymore. But that just might be the hideous state of my bathroom making everything I own look like crap.

I adore my shower curtain–the upstairs bath one, anyway. It’s the Zinnia curtain from Garnet Hill, which they recently discontinued. I’d seen it in the catalog, but I didn’t really think about it until I saw it look great in a vintage bath in an Apartment Therapy house tour. My bath is yellow, not salmon, but it looks amazing. I also have a great and also discontinued mango and pink Garnet Hill bath mat.

Downstairs I have a striped Target curtain which looks good, but the gray tiled bath needs more help than a curtain can provide.

The fabric of the ruffle curtain is really ironable, but mine came shipped in a box from someone who bought it and changed her mind, and it’s a bit wrinkly. The shower steam really doesn’t get the wrinkles out. THat’s jsut me, though — they probably don’t all arrive like mine did, stuffed in a FedEx box!

[...] 1) Shower curtains figure largely into your small bathrooms. Many of you really love your choices. I was googling this shower curtain and came across your blog in the process. I was in love with the Anthro shower curtain you have listed for MONTHS AND MONTHS and finally on Monday decided I couldn’t live another day without it so I ordered it – who spends over $100 a shower curtain? I guess ME, lol. I got it in the mail yesterday and it’s seriously AMAZING! I can’t wait to hang it in our bathroom (which I’m sure will have to make the blog, so check it out).
