steal this idea: glowing heart garland

This project came about as I was thinking about a simple way to “Valentine up” the white twinkle lights I still had up in my office area. I remembered spying a few cool projects in the blogosphere (namely here and here) utilizing baking cups as a quick way to embellish a string of lights. So I grabbed a few colorful baking cups, scissors and a stapler, and came up with a quick and easy holiday craft that can be done in a snap! — Megan B.

What you will need:
Cupcake liners in various shades and sizes (I used both mini and full sized)
1 string of white twinkle lights
Stapler & Staples
Scissors

Begin by selecting 3 matching cups. Flatten and smooth them out the best you can, and fold them in half. Either trace a half heart shape and then cut, or just freehand cut the cups into a heart. When you unfold, you will have three identical hearts.

Staple the hearts together to form a three-sided heart, joining them with two staples per side — one at the top of heart’s curve, and one 3/4 of the way down. Repeat as needed. Place on top of the individual bulbs (either through the top or bottom opening of the hearts). If you’d like, staple together a few of the cupcake liners that were cut as a reverse image and loop them through the light string. Plug ‘em in, and enjoy the glow with the one(s) you love!

Really adorable Megs… very creative and unique! it also looks like it would be fun and easy to do with kids.

Instead of cupcake liners, I wonder if you could do this craft with coffee filters…

@diy-day: Sure, why not? Or do a mixture of the two for even more size and texture variation! Heck, other patterned papers or vellum would work well, too. Feel free to sub out whatever you have on hand!
