americana camp revival: from land of nod to wes anderson

As we gear up for our annual summer pilgrimage to Maine, rustic camp style is flooding our dreams — and everywhere we look! First, we were delightfully charmed by Wes Anderson’s romantic film Moonrise Kingdom, which is set around a scout camp on a fictional island off the coast of New England, called New Penzance Island. (Check out this blog post at BHG.com which does a nice “get the look” on the film.)

Then we were tickled to get the latest Land of Nod catalog that was shot on location at Camp Wanadewga in Wisconsin.

We first heard about Camp Wandawega when the book Found, Free & Flea came out this past winter. It is an inspiring book that centers around Tereasa Sturratt and her journey in adopting a rundown summer camp site.

Transforming it with collections and carefully curated finds, Surratt preserves all of the charm of an old American camp, but adds in a touch of humor and a great eye for arranging.

See more about her style on this Apartment Therapy post, and be sure to keep your eyes out for Camp Wandawega in the new Land of Nod catalog.
