Portland’s Ace Hotel is where we park ourselves whenever we visit the city for work or play (unless we’re crashing with dear friends or Shelterrific buddies, which is much more fun). Every time we go there we find some other cool design thing we want to bring into our own homes. Like this Radar Sconce that is used as a bedside table in the rooms and in the new atmospheric Ace basement bar. It is the Radar Sconce, and it was created in collaboration with Ace and Schoolhouse Electric. The clever folks at Schoolhouse had found a 1970s stamped electrical box that had the vintage tooling but hadn’t been used in decades. The perforated guard matches the original parts washer diffuser, and they attach to it using magnets that don’t scratch the paint. We love it because it reminds of our grade school gymnasiums, where we would spend our time looking around at fixtures instead of looking out for the dodge ball about to nail us. $160 at schoolhouselectric.com.
