want it now: marc jacobs waterford flowers

shelter_jacobsflower.jpg

Since tomorrow is the first day of Spring (hooray!) I thought I’d share a little discovery I spotted at Happy Mundane: Marc Jacob’s Waterford Clare Glass Flower Set. Jacobs has created a beautiful collection for the company that includes vases, champagne saucers, bowls and more, each named after a personal friend of the designer’s. But it’s these blooms that I want. I also want to know who Clare is — she must be a woman of exquisite taste and beauty. $165 for set of three. — Angela M.

new obsession: wooden hand mirrors

shelter_mirrors.jpg

Last weekend I wandered into the John Derian store in the East Village and walked out with a new thing to be on the hunt for: vintage, wooden hand mirrors. John Derian had a pile of them on a table — the whole store feels like a perfectly edited, presented flea market — for $50 each. Then, on Monday, a new Pottery Barn catalog arrived and I saw this photo of a bedroom decorated with a collection of them. I did a quick seplace on eBay and found this beveled one for only $12, but something tells me it might take a while before I amass a collection. I don’t think I’d put them over the bed like PB, but perhaps down a hallway, or over a dresser. What’s your collection obsession right now? — Angela M.

vera scarves — for you and your home!

shelter_verascarf2.jpg

I recently bought myself a new trenchcoat for springtime, and since have been fantasizing about all the colorful Vera scarves I can tie around my neck to go with it. There’s a collection of them available at Auto, $80 each, reissues of the line’s classics of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. I know they’ll look fab with my mac, but I can’t help but thinking about how beautiful they’d be as décor. In fact, as the original Vera catalog pointed out, why not hang them as a gallery on the wall? The new reissued ones from Auto are worthy of professional framing, but if you find any while seplaceing around bins at the flea markets, or on eBay, where they are usually about $10, you can be a little more creative. You could stitch them together in an gorgeous silk curtain or twist them together to form a pillow. — Angela M.

want it now: vicki simon’s fish rugs

shelter_depthrug2.jpg

Like Veruca Salt wanted that golden ticket. Badly. They are from Vicki Simon’s “the depths” collection. I’m going to Paris next weekend and just ate at PerSe on Tuesday; these are fancy, fun things, I remind myself. I can’t have my cake and eat it, too and have another piece. That’s how I see the rug, as another piece. It’ll have to wait. I have a coaster of one on my inspiration board. That crazy fish staring at me. He’s mad genius. Do check out the rugs: rugsbyvickisimon.com. — Allison R.
