go shopping and help the snow leopard

Last week we read this fascinating story on the BBC about conservation efforts to tag snow endangered leopards along the Afghan-Pakistan border (a dangerous place, to say the least). This led us to the The
Snow Leopard Trust which is working with local organizations to provide herders in remote parts of the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, and Pakistan with training and equipment to produce handicrafts from the wool of their sheep and camels. Through the Snow Leopard Trust online store you can buy locally-made woolens, like slippers, coasters and this gorgeous natural dyed rug, above, $145. The communities who participate in this program agree to not to kill snow leopards or their prey species, and to follow sustainable herding practices. We think it’s a wonderful way to add some exotic flair to your home, while contributing to a good cause. Roar on.
meg's green finds: dwr cork stool

Though it’s made of cork, there’s something about the color and texture of this stool from Design Within Reach that has a wonderfully earthy vibe. Plus, it strikes me as remarkably versatile: it would be a fabulous, unexpected design element in a sophisticated living room as easily as it would be a fun and funky addition to a child’s bedroom. And since it’s made of cork – a renewable resource, by the way – it’s the perfect spot to pin children’s artwork, photographs, or upcoming event invitations. $385, at Design Within Reach. — Meg D.
